The United States Army Special Forces was formed in 1952. In 1961 qualified Special Forces personnel were honored by President John F. Kennedy with the authority to wear the Green Beret. Kennedy picked green 'because he was an Irishman' stated Col. Aaron Banks, the former OSS officer and first Commander of Special Forces.
This Chapter is dedicated and named in honor of Sergeant First Class Allen Johnson from Los Molinos CA, his wife and two children, and his parents. Allen was a Special Forces medic killed in Action in Afghanistan on April 26, 2005, while flanking Taliban forces to free his Operational Detachment A (A Team) that was pinned down by enemy fire. By doing so, he drew concentrated fire from the enemy as his team was able to maneuver from the ambush. Allen was killed by the concentrated small arms fire. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for his actions.
As the Allen Johnson Chapter website is developed it will provide information on Special Forces History, Current Activities of the Chapter, and scholarships to high school seniors, ROTC Honors Programs and news of other chapter activities.
We hope you enjoy touring the web site and your comments, suggestions or questions are welcome.
Please do not hesitate to drop a comment or question on our Message Board.
Shasta County was one of the original counties of California, created in 1850 at the time of statehood. Parts of the county's territory were given to Siskiyou County in 1852, and to Tehama County in 1856. The county was named after Mount Shasta; the name "Shasta" is derived from the English equivalent for the name of an Indian tribe that once lived in the area. Originally Mt. Shasta was within the county, but it is now part of Siskiyou County, to the north. Its 14,179-foot peak is visible throughout most of Shasta County.
Shasta Lake is the largest reservoir and third largest lake in California with a surface area of 30,000 acres and a depth of 517 feet. The lake boasts 365 miles of mostly steep mountainous shoreline covered with tall evergreen trees and manzanita. Shasta Dam was constructed between 1935 and 1945, while the lake was formed in 1948. It became the second largest and the tallest concrete dam in the USA. from Wikipedia
